GRAMMY Award-nominated Drummer and Composer Dan Pugach and his Big Band will open the 2024 Branford Jazz Series on the Town Green on June 27th at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature original compositions from his latest Big Band Album, “Bianca”, released in March 2024 on Outside in Music.
“I cannot wait to perform at the 2024 Branford Jazz Series with my 17-piece big band,” said Pugach. “We’ve been enjoying such immense enthusiasm for the music on my new album and I’m so delighted to play it at the iconic Jazz on the Green Series.”
A three-time winner of the ASCAP Foundation Jazz Composer Award and winner of the BMI Charlie Parker Composition Prize/Manny Albam Commission (BMI Jazz Composers Workshop), Dan was the featured drummer on the 2024 GRAMMY Award-winning album “How Love Begins”, co-produced by his wife, Nicole Zuraitis, and Christian McBride.

Dan’s debut nonet album, “Plus One” (2018), was released on UNIT Records, charted on jazz radio in the top 20, and included Dan’s GRAMMY Award-nominated arrangement of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” (Best Arrangement, Instruments with Vocals, with vocalist Nicole Zuraitis).

For as long as he can recall, New London Big Band leader, Sean Nelson, envisioned the day that he wanted to lead an epic jazz orchestra of 17 –plus musicians. A band that would play music old and new- ranging from the Roaring 20s to brand new compositions written by members of the group.
Well, the vision became a reality in the summer of 2016 when after he and a buddy saw a new place opening looking for music entertainment, Nelson called around looking for the best musicians he knew and the New London Big Band was formed.
On July 11th, Sean and his New London Big Band will return for another Branford Jazz Series appearance on Thursday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. on the Branford Town Green.
Led by trombonist and composer Nelson, the 17 piece jazz orchestra plays a mix of classic jazz standards, upbeat dance tunes and original music by band members, and regularly features instrumental and vocal soloists. They play monthly to sold out crowds at the Social Bar +Kitchen in New London. Thanks to their local fan base, the band won “Best Jazz Band” for CTNOW’s Best of Hartford. The band is comprised of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, a piano, guitar, upright bass and a drummer.
